Wrapping Up the Year on a Positive Note! This morning, South Sioux City Middle School celebrated our final Student of the Month recognition of the school year and what a meaningful way to close things out! Students were nominated by their principals for demonstrating outstanding character, academic growth, a positive attitude, kindness toward peers, and grit. Each honoree was surprised with a special breakfast alongside their proud parents/guardians, followed by a heartfelt celebration in their honor. It was a joy to see so many smiling faces and to witness the pride and happiness beaming from their families. Congratulations to all of our honorees—you continue to make our Cardinal community proud!

On Tuesday, April 15th, five SSCMS gentlemen participated in the Spring ThinkingCap Quiz Bowl competition. The competition took place online, and they competed against many schools around the Midwest. Those competing were 8th-graders: Zander Bengston, James Cross, Grant Joy, Jacob Warner, and 7th-grader Joel Orozco Villafana (not pictured). The contest includes 100 questions, including academic questions from math, science, etc. As well as current event questions, including sports, politics, and entertainment. These young men did a fine job representing SSCMS, and we should know their results in a few weeks. MS Quiz Bowl is coached by Cassandra Joseph.

Middle School Families, As we head into the final stretch of the school year, we want to remind everyone just how important it is to be at school each and every day. These last weeks are filled with valuable learning, chances to improve grades, and meaningful time with teachers and friends. Every day your student is present helps build the skills and confidence they need for success—now and in the future. To make things even more exciting, we've launched a special attendance incentive! Students with strong or improved attendance from April 14 to May 21 will earn entries into a grand prize drawing for awesome items like a PlayStation 5, AirPods Pro, and an iPad. The more days they're here, the more chances they'll have to win! We appreciate your partnership in helping students finish the year strong. If there's anything we can do to support your child's attendance, don't hesitate to reach out. 402-494-3061 Let's show up, work hard, and end the school year on a high note! Go Cards! 2025 Tolerance Week Winner Yaretzi Curiel-Perez won this year's Tolerance Week Essay Contest with her poem "Throughout the Ashes." Her poem was chosen out of hundreds of student entries from the Siouxland area. Congrats, Yaretzi! Throughout the Ashes The world was bright, the sky was blue Before they came and took us too Mom cried while father prayed But no one came, no hand was laid They packed us tight in Mental trains, Faces pale and full of pain No space to breathe, no room to stand Holding tight to mom’s hand The air was cold, the ground Was stone I've never felt so alone, they cut my hair, they stole my name To them we all just look the same The days were long the nights were worse Every breath I took, I feared the worse But I won't break, I won't let go Through fire and ash my hope Still grows One day soon, this war will end And I will walk free, I will ascend The stars will shine, the world still turns Through homes are lost, though Hearts will burn I'll tell my story, I will stand, A mark of hope upon this land

Congratulations to our Middle School Students of the Month! We are so proud of these incredible students who are setting a beautiful example for their peers by choosing kindness, working hard, and making choices their future selves will be proud of. Middle school can be a tough time—there's so much learning, growing, and discovering who you are. That’s why it’s such an achievement to stay true to your values and lead with heart. 👏 Let’s celebrate these students for their resilience, positivity, and leadership. Keep shining—you inspire us all! ❤️ #StudentOfTheMonth #MiddleSchoolPride #FutureLeaders #ChooseKindness #CardinalPride #WeAreSSC

The algebra and geometry students celebrated Pi Day by learning how Pi was discovered. They were given several circles to choose from and had to measure the circumference and the diameter. They had to figure out how to measure these with very little guidance. The geometry students did the same activity last year. This year they were able to use their geometry skills with their compass and straightedge to get more accurate measurements.
