❤️October is National Principals Month!

We know we may be a little biased, but we truly believe we have some of the very best.

Our principals are a group of leaders who are deeply devoted to the students they serve. Every day, they are looking for ways to help their students grow academically, support them emotionally, celebrate their successes, guide them through challenges, and make sure they know they have someone in their corner.

So much of what our principals do happens quietly behind the scenes, in conversations with students and families, in classrooms and hallways, and in the countless decisions they make with their students’ best interests at heart.

❤️ Octubre es el Mes Nacional de los Directores Escolares, y este mensaje nace del corazón.

Sabemos que quizá seamos un poco parciales, pero sinceramente creemos que contamos con algunos de los mejores.

Ser director escolar significa mucho más que dirigir una escuela. Significa conocer a sus estudiantes, creer en ellos, celebrar sus logros y acompañarlos durante los días difíciles. Significa apoyar a los maestros y al personal, escuchar a las familias, resolver situaciones que muchas veces nadie más ve y tomar innumerables decisiones cada día teniendo siempre algo muy importante en mente: ¿qué es lo mejor para nuestros estudiantes?

Y eso es precisamente lo que hace tan especiales a nuestros directores.

Ellos realmente se preocupan por sus estudiantes. Quieren verlos triunfar académicamente, pero también quieren que se sientan seguros, apoyados, valorados y reconocidos. Están presentes en los grandes momentos y también en los pequeños: en las celebraciones, los desafíos, las conversaciones en los pasillos y en todos esos momentos detrás de escenas que quizá nunca reciban reconocimiento.

Este mes queremos asegurarnos de que sepan que vemos esos momentos. Vemos su esfuerzo. Vemos el corazón que ponen en su trabajo. Y nada de eso pasa desapercibido.

South Sioux City High School’s Educators Rising students are giving back through a School Supply Drive, and they need your help!

As part of their community service project, students will be collecting school supplies to help support our local schools and classrooms. Families and staff are invited to donate during Parent-Teacher Conferences on October 21 & 22.

📍 Drop off donations at the Educators Rising table at South Sioux City High School.

Suggested donations include pencils, black pens, highlighters, paper, binders, notebooks, tissues, hand sanitizer, earbuds and backpacks.

🚌 Safety Starts with Practice! As school gets started, students are practicing school bus evacuation procedures so they know what to do in the unlikely event of an emergency. These drills give students an opportunity to practice listening for directions, exiting the bus safely, and moving to a secure location. Just like fire drills at school, practicing ahead of time helps students and staff stay calm, confident, and prepared when it matters most. A big thank you to our transportation team and school staff for helping keep student safety at the center of everything we do! 🚌 ----- 🚌 ¡La seguridad comienza con la práctica! Ahora que comienza el año escolar, nuestros estudiantes están practicando los procedimientos de evacuación del autobús escolar para saber qué hacer en el caso poco probable de una emergencia. Estos simulacros les brindan la oportunidad de practicar cómo escuchar y seguir instrucciones, salir del autobús de manera segura y dirigirse a un lugar seguro. The safety of our students and staff is one of the most important factors to a successful school district. South Sioux City Community Schools is committed to ensuring our schools are safe and our staff is prepared. To enhance this, in 2017, we moved to a Standard Response Protocol (SRP) called "I Love U Guys". We feel this protocol will give us the tools to be even more prepared for weather events, fires, accidents, intruders and other threats to student and staff safety.

The Standard Response Protocol is based not on individual scenarios but on consistent response to any given scenario. SRP demands a specific vocabulary but also allows for great flexibility. The premise is simple - there are five specific actions that can be performed during an incident.

• Secure is followed by the Directive: "Get Inside. Lock Outside Doors" and is the protocol used to safeguard students and staff within a building.

• Lockdown is followed by "Locks, Lights, Out of Sight" and is the protocol used to secure individual rooms and keep students quiet and in place.

• Evacuate is always followed by a location, and is used to move students and staff from one location to a different location in or out of the building.

• Shelter is always followed by a type and a method and is the protocol for group and self protection.

• Hold is a "hold" in the classrooms. Students and teachers are directed to stay in their rooms and clear the hallways. This is typically used for medical emergencies.

Throughout the school year, students will have the opportunity to participate in practice drills for each of the Standard Response Protocols. On Thursday, September 25th E.N. Swett students practiced evacuating the building. During an evacuation drill, students are provided the experience of going to our secondary site. Students did a wonderful job of following the protocol guided by our Building Safety Team.

La seguridad de nuestros estudiantes y personal escolar son los factores más importantes a un exitoso distrito escolar. Las Escuelas de la Comunidad de South Sioux City están comprometidas a asegurar que nuestras escuelas estén seguras y que nuestro personal esté preparado. Para realzar esto, en 2017 nos movimos a un Protocolo de Respuesta Estándar (SRP) llamado "I Love U Guys". Our Cardinal Youth Soccer League is getting ready to kick off, and we’re looking for parent and community volunteers to coach our 1st–5th grade teams!

You don’t have to be a soccer expert to make a difference. If you enjoy working with kids, encouraging teamwork, and helping young Cardinals build confidence and have fun, we’d love to have you on the sidelines! 🙌

One of the things that makes this league special is giving our students the opportunity to play alongside their classmates, represent their Cardinal community, and build friendships outside of the school day. Our volunteer coaches are a BIG part of making that experience possible. ❤️⚽

📅 Six Saturdays: September 12, 19 & 26 and October 3, 10 & 17
⏰ Approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes each Saturday
