Hall of Fame 2022-2023
Trish Martin and Jimmy Breaman
Trish Martin is the daughter of Scott and Cheryl Martin and was a basketball standout for the Cardinals. She earned The Journal Female Metro Athlete of the Year in 1996. Martin played in three Nebraska state tournaments and was captain of the all-tournament and Super State (elite) teams both her junior and senior year. Martin also was Nebraska's Miss Basketball, Gatorade Nebraska and Regional Player of the Year. Martin took part in three all-star games and earned Most Valuable Player honors in two of them.
Not only did Martin excel in basketball at SSC, Martin ran on a third-place state track 4x800 relay squad, teaming with Kelly Everett, Leesa Bahr and Missy Cook for a school-record 9:38:92 in the 1995 state meet. She was part of a fifth-place 4x400 baton squad as a freshman and qualified in the 800 twice. She grew up playing softball in the summers... this is before softball was added as a high school sport.
South Sioux City placed fifth in both the 1993 and 1994 state cross country meets, with Martin qualifying individually each season. After playing volleyball her junior year, Martin returned to cross country as a senior where she helped the Cardinals reach the state meet.
Martin went on to a decorated basketball career at Morningside University. She is currently an elementary school PE teacher at Dakota City and Lewis & Clark and coaches basketball, track and softball here in the district . Thank you to Trish Martin for making a lasting impact on past, current and future Cardinals!.
Congratulations & Thank You Trish!
Jimmy Breaman is a 1983 graduate of South Sioux City High School. He is the son of Connie and Jim Breaman. He has a sister named Jill that graduated from South Sioux CIty High School in 1988. Jimmy is without a doubt the number one Cardinal fan of all time. No other individual transcends more decades than Jimmy Breaman! Jimmy has logged countless hours helping prepare for and cleanup after any type of SSC activity. He is a pro at sweeping the Mini-Dome floor and pulling out the bleachers. Overall, he has swept through at least three different Mini-Dome floor designs and paintings.
Furthermore, Jimmy has worked as the ticket taker at booster club basketball tournaments and league games for decades. He takes this job very seriously and is relentless about making sure nobody slips through. There are NO FREE PASSES when Jimmy is taking gate! Jimmy also likes helping with the booster club hot dog sales at football games and he will definitely let the proper authorities know if a gate or door is left open or unlocked. Decades worth of Cardinal athletes have been scolded for bouncing a ball in a hallway or for simply not following the rules.
Jimmy’s favorite memories of SSC are the district championship wins in the Dome and the state tournament games in Lincoln. The first trips to the state tournaments were some of the best memories ever to him. SSC wouldn’t be the same without Jimmy, and we would not be able to take such pride in our facilities or activities without him.
Congratulations & Thank You Jimmy!
